Carnival Cruise March 2013

For Lori’s 46th birthday we booked a last minute cruise to the Southern Caribbean. We flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico to board the Carnival Valor. The ship stopped at St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten before returning to port in Puerto Rico. We had a truly wonderful time, particularly enjoying St. Lucia and St. Maarten. Carnival Cruise December 2012

For our 24th wedding anniversary we took a short three night Carnival cruise from Long Beach, CA down to Ensenada, Mexico and back. This was sort of a dry run to see if we liked cruising the Pacific this time of year. It was just too cold and we decided that if you are going to commit to a cruise, three days is just too short, especially when a seven day cruise doesn’t cost that much more. To top it off, December is just too chilly for a West Coast/Pacific trip like that. We had a great time with cousin Pam & Fern and also our friends Nikkol and Andrew, but it was just too short and chilly!

Germany November 2012

Joe and his coworker Alan traveled to Düsseldorf Germany for a week to work with peers from JCM’s office there. They worked hard every day and were then treated to some amazing food and sight-seeing every night. The final night they went to the company’s annual Christmas party and then got to check out a couple of German casinos.

Halloween 2012

This year we attended a friend’s Halloween party on Saturday the 27th, then got a room at the Golden Gate hotel on Fremont Street for Halloween night. Lori and Joe originally dressed up as old time gangsters, then on Halloween night Lori went a little more risque for our time down on Fremont Street to mingle with all the other crazies.

29 Palms October 2012

Joe and his buddy Scott took a motorcycle cruise down to 29 Palms, CA for the weekend to help Scott’s California mom, Nancy move some furniture. The weather was fantastic and it was a great opportunity to put some miles on the bikes. On the way down they took I-95 and connected to Route 66 in California. On the way back they took back roads thru the Mojave National Preserve for all kinds of twists and turns and great scenery. Here are a couple of photos from the trip:

Palm Springs August 2012

Time to try something new! We booked a rental house in Palm Springs with another couple for a long weekend in August. Hey, we’re from Las Vegas, how bad can the heat be? The house was great with a classy design and a wonderful pool. We visited their weekly downtown flea market and realized Las Vegas heat is NOTHING compared to Palm Springs, but we still enjoyed the town’s personality. The next day we took the Aerial Tramway up the neighboring mountainside into a 30 degree cooler forest area. This was wonderful and had amazing photo opportunities. We wrapped the weekend up with a trip to the casino for some gambling, food, and dancing at the lounge following a brief power outage. We really liked the town and want to go back again when the weather is a little cooler so we can get more sandwiches with Dutch Crunch bread from The Sandwich Spot.

Laughlin River Run April 2012

We finally decided to see what all the fuss is about. Every year a huge motorcycle rally takes place about 90 minutes south of Las Vegas in Laughlin, NV. We already know we like this small border town along the Colorado river, but never checked out this event. A small group of us cruised down on bikes and cars and found this to be a HUGE event. It’s not as big as Sturgis, but is a similar concept on a smaller scale. We’re planning on attending next year and might even stay a night or two.

Mom & Bill’s Las Vegas Visit March 2012

Mom & Bill visited from March 19th to 23rd & stayed at Bally’s. We went to Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall and had dinner at the Victorian Cafe, then visited Liz working at the Imperial Palace box office. Tuesday we had lunch at Sunset Station’s Fat Burger, went laptop shopping and back to our house to chat. For dinner we had crab legs at the Fremont Casino’s buffet. Wednesday Mom & Bill did some Las Vegas strip walking, visiting MGM, New York-New York, Venetian and more. We went to McMullin’s Irish Pub for dinner that night. On their final day we had a late breakfast at Dupar’s diner at the Golden Gate on Fremont Street, then we headed to Red Rock Canyon to explore the area. Then we headed to Bonnie Springs Ranch for snacks and drinks and some old west nostalgia. We stopped at the Silverton Casino for ice cream and a trip to Bass Pro Shops before heading back to the house for a little rest. Finally we ran to Metro Pizza to share a last supper before the plane ride home the next morning.

Carnival Cruise March 2012

For Lori’s 45th birthday we boarded the Carnival Spendor in Long Beach, CA and cruised to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. For Lori’s birthday dinner we dined in the ship’s steak house and were lucky enough to see whales alongside the ship from our table, followed by a beautiful sunset. We had a wonderful relaxing week and met lots of great people. The full album is available HERE, and some samples are below:

Grand Canyon / Route 66

We took a last minute weekend trip to the Grand Canyon. Just like the last time we went in 2007, it was the off season and coooooold. This time we walked down the Bright Angel trail into the canyon, despite the snowy, icy, retardedly dangerous conditions. We got plenty of great photos and are ready to go back in a few months when the snow is gone so we can hike farther into the canyon. We really enjoyed the small town of Williams, AZ where we stayed. We ate at small town local restaurants all weekend, and cruised leisurely along Route 66 on the way home, stopping frequently to take some great photos at some classic American businesses. We even stopped at the Grand Canyon Caverns and took the tour. Here are some sample photos, and click HERE to see the full album.
