River Regatta August 2014

This year’s 8th annual Bullhead City River Regatta was the second for us – and according the the organizers they had over 100,000 registrants! This time we stayed at the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall in Laughlin. Surprisingly we really liked staying there. The staff was very friendly, the room rates were some of the best in town, the main restaurant is the best in town, and we were able to pull the truck right up to our room to unload our stuff. Definitely a do-over. The shuttle to the launch point took about an hour total, we were on the river for about 8 hours, and then the trip back took maybe two hours because there were so many people at one place – but they had a lot of buses and kept it flowing pretty well. Two cameras were lost, Stitch cut his foot pretty bad, and a bunch of us got nasty sunburns, but it won’t keep us from returning a little wiser and more prepared next year! Big Bear August 2014

Birthday trip! August 1st was Joe’s 44th birthday so we took a trip to Big Bear, CA for a weekend getaway. The primary attraction here is skiing so going in the summer is the slow season and that means inexpensive cabins! We found one for $79/night and explored the “up north” style community up on the mountain. We really like the atmosphere and will definitely add this place to our annual must-do trip list. Carnival Cruise May 2014

Our friends Tom & Krissy sent us a note saying they were jonesing for a short cruise to we all jumped on carnival.com and within a few minutes booked a four night cruise from Long Beach, CA to Catalina Island, CA and then on to Ensenada, Mexico. This was our first trip to Catalina and we were really impressed! It reminded us a lot of Mackinac Island. After our four night cruise Lori got off the boat, drove half way back to Las Vegas and met up with her friend Nikkol where she jumped in Nikkol’s car, rode right back to the same ship and did the three night version of the cruise for a girl’s weekend! Very cool! Click HERE for the full album.

Grandma’s 90th Birthday / Trip to Michigan

In March 2014 we took a frigid trip to Michigan to visit with relatives and to also surprise Grandma Thompson for her 90th birthday party. All four of her grandsons were there along with many of her family friends for a memorable event. Lori visited with her sister, Joe visited with his dad, and we got to spend a lot of time with Owen. Click HERE for photos from the birthday party and click HERE for general photos from the trip.

Calico Ghost Town January 2014

We got our group of cruising buddies together for a trip south to the small ghost town of Calico, CA. This is an old mining town that was purchased by the owner of Knotts Berry Farms and restored and turned into a sort of state park. It’s a lot of fun and great for a leisurely day playing tourist. Halloween 2013

The season started with a trip to Bonnie Springs for their haunted ghost town attraction Bonnie Screams. That’s always a lot of fun. Then it was back to Fremont Street for our annual Halloween freak-fest! This time we stayed at The D for about $30/night. We dressed up in our costumes, met up with friends and bar-hopped the night away. Click HERE for the full album.

Oatman, AZ August 2013

We organized a day trip to Oatman, AZ with a group of friends. This is an old west town that has live gun fights on main street and donkeys walking all over the place. It was a great cruise for cars and bikes and we had lunch at the restaurant in the Oatman Hotel. This is definitely a do-over. You cruise on Route 66 for part of the way there and it’s a fun twisty/turny road with plenty of interesting things to see along the way. Coming home we hit a really nasty rain storm so those of us on bikes were really drenched. Below are a few images from the trip, or click HERE for the full album.

River Regatta August 2013

The second weekend in August means Bullhead City River Regatta. This was our first time attending the event and this was their 8th annual river regatta which claims to be the world’s largest. We stay in Laughlin, NV at one of the many riverside casinos and head out Saturday morning to the Arizona side of the river where we meet up with friends. Some groups create fancy floats and compete in a design contest, but most of us buy some fun tubes with built-in coolers and attach ourselves to 20 other peoples’ tubes and float and drink down the Colorado river for half the day. We had a great time and plan to do it again next year. Click HERE for our full album and check out some sample photos below.

Mom & Bill Visit March 2013

Spring time in Las Vegas brings warm weather, flowers, and Cheesmans back to the city. Mom and Bill were back for another round of site-seeing and good times on Fremont Street. We had plenty of great food, cold cocktails, got to see a couple of amazing classic rock bands, and took a beautiful trip to Zion national park in Utah. After the week was over we realized we were having so much fun we forgot to pull the camera out of our pockets most of the time, but we did manage to put a gallery together.
